Over the fourth of July holiday weekend, Alex and Masha got married in New York City! Simon spent the weekend with his Pappy and Grammy in Ocean City, but Toby came to NYC with us.
We drove up to New York with Dan, who had volunteered to make the chuppah for the wedding. The ceremony was in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and they couldn't start setting it up until an hour before the ceremony was scheduled to start, so to be safe, Dan and Erik did a "dry run" of setting up the chuppah in Dan's sister's driveway in West Chester.
This is Dan on the drive up, chatting with Emre who was waiting for us in New York with some of the rest of the gang. We rented a minivan (to the amusement of our neighbors, who thought for a moment that we had finally broken down and purchased a "family car" when Erik pulled up in it!). We barely managed to pack ourselves, the baby, the box and bags containing the chuppah, and our suitcases and duffel bags in the van.
Toby slept the whole way up, the beginning of a perfectly behaved weekend. Note the side of the chuppah box in the background!
When we arrived, we checked in and immediately went to an Irish bar next door to watch the France-Brazil World Cup game with the gang. Josh is shown here with Erik and Toby. Remember in NYC, there's no smoking in the bars - so it's a perfectly reasonable environment for a baby!
Erik corrupting the baby with his first taste of stout! No, not really... honest...
Emre and Dan, watching the game intently.
So, on July 1, 2004, exactly two years earlier, if you had told Nicole that she would be photographed calmly breastfeeding her SECOND child in a bar two years to the day later, she would never have believed you! (The "Hooter Hider" (yes, that's the real brand name) is courtesy of Erik's parents.)
Lisa, Pat and Josh catching up.
