Nicole worked in her full-time role through the last week of June, and then left for a week at the Muther lake house! The kids had a wonderful time playing in the water; Erik had a slightly less wonderful time with his boat; and by mid-week, Nicole realized she was completely relaxed and not thinking about work for the first time since she came back from maternity leave with Toby!
RE the boat: we don't even have any photos of it from this trip! The first morning after we arrived, Erik went out by himself in the boat. When he'd been gone about 45 minutes, his Dad suddenly commented "I hope Erik hasn't run into any problems." And just when we were about to come looking for him, he returned - by foot, on land!
When he first drove the boat in June, he commented that the seller had filled the fuel tank, and wasn't that nice. Well, the seller wasn't so nice after all... instead, the fuel guage was broken, the tank was nearly empty when we picked up the boat, and it ran dry in the MIDDLE of the lake!
The result was a week of frustration with the boat. In the end, we left the boat there and made arrangements to have it serviced, have various issues fixed, etc. Considering they found some safety issues so severe that the manager wouldn't let his techs test-drive the boat without fixing them, it was a good decision! And given the original price of the boat, even with the refurbishing, we still got a good price.
Daddy pulling Simon at full speed
Thursday was Simon's birthday - he turned FOUR!
Our friends from Haverford, James and Laura, came to visit us at the lake house with their children, and stayed for Simon's birthday. Here's Clara!
Decorated for the party
Simon said he wanted an ice cream cake with a blue car on it (a la the third birthday). This time, Mommy did the decorating.
When you're the birthday boy, you get any piece you want - even if it's smack in the middle of the cake!
Farfar and Farmor, and Dale Allison joined us too!
